Shrewsbury 6-0 Patana

From Arsenal in the early 00's under Arsene Wenger to Man City under Pep Guardiola of recent seasons within the space of a week. It feels a bit strange to write about defensive frailties after a 6-0 win and yet another clean sheet. However, the scoreline simply does not tell the full story. Shrewsbury were lucky not to conceded three if not four goals (especially in the first half). If it not for Pote's maginificent display (again), the game would have been a lot closer. Time and again, we appeared underloaded or failed to mark Patana players who ghosted into our box seemingly unnoticed. I often find that teams who dominate possession in every game by such an overwhelming majority struggle when they are asked to defend. I do not believe it is for lack of desire, more simply a lack of experience in defensive situations. This team is very rarely asked to defend as a unit because they have the ball for at least 70% of each game.

On a more positive note, the goals continued to flow. Poom (who continues to improve at a fantastic rate), linked play really well with some deft touches and scored such an emphatic goal into the top corner. JJ, Kiyan and Nile were creative and a constant threat. Thomas, again caused chaos when he came on and scored a brilliant side-footed volley. Gorngris has also impressed recently and appears to be growing in confidence, looking more sure-footed with each game.

Our last game of 2020 is against ASB this Tuesday 15th December on the Canterbury fields @ 3:30pm. Will it be another goal fest? I would say so.
