There were chants of “SHB, SHB” from the Chatrium End as the JV boys left it late to draw their first home match in five attempts. There was no such backing when the home side went a goal down inside 10 minutes, but just when Mr Radcliffe needed it most Po and his team came through with the sort of stirring fightback supporters had begun to despair of ever seeing again.

The Canterbury Field was a happy place at the end, it had seen the first decent game in quite some time, and neither of those eventualities seemed on the cards when the match kicked off. In terms of Radcliffe’s future at JV level, the much-discussed manager looked on impressively as SHB started the game like a runaway train and the JV team as a whole looked like an entirely different team from recent fixtures as they passed the ball around impressively after 4 straight defeats.

It was only possible in the end to feel sorry for ICS, who were a major part of this game’s entertainment factor and were definitely worth a share of the points, but the home side inexorably wore them down in the second half, to claim a vital 2-2 draw.

ICS were impressive as they raced into a 1-0 lead inside 15 minutes, making a mockery of the fact that they arrived at Shrewsbury International without a win to their name this season.

When the game commenced it was apparent straight away that SHB intended to try to seize an opportunity rather than put up one of their defensive blockades. Hurrying their opponents into mistakes, the visitors capitalised however when a long throw in was not dealt with effectively and a deflection stranded Zach in goal. In to the second half and still one down, after missing a number of clear cut chances, the supporters rose to their feet as Po scored a simply sublime goal. Po received an inspired pass to set him free, he cut out both centre-halves with a drop of the shoulder and a sharp turn and as the full-back came across too late, Po held him off easily and whipped a shot into the bottom corner, sparking jubilant scenes on the touchline.

Even when back on level terms SHB showed no intention of dropping back to protect the result. Tut brought a diving save from the goalkeeper and Bommy headed wide of the ICS goal from close range. A rare error from Louis in goal, flapping at a cross, put ICS back in front and Radcliffe’s response to going behind was to send on a number of subs, though the only clear-cut chances went narrowly wide from the home side. With 8 minutes remaining Radcliffe deployed his final substitute and his last hope in the form of Game.

After pressing ICS back, the comeback was on, and though the ICS goalkeeper performed heroically to deny William and Tut again, he was eventually beaten by Game's excellent last ditch effort. Game stealing in at the far post to poke firmly home. Cruel on ICS at the death, but reports of SHB’s demise have clearly been exaggerated. An outstanding game.
